TouchID May Come Back on iPhones in 2021

FaceID has been a charm for me since owning my iPhone X. I did not get an upgrade to the XSes because I do not feel the urge to do so. I am happy with my 256GB of internal storage though I must admit that I should have waited. I am an impulsive buyer by the way.

Some of the most respected Apple analysts reported that Touch ID could return to iPhones in 2021. According to Ming-Chi Kuo of 9to5Mac, in 2021, iPhones may be featuring both FaceID and TouchID on the same device. This TouchID fingerprint reader will be built directly into the iPhone’s display just like most Android phones today.

There are some claims that the fingerprint sensors will most likely to be based on one of Qualcomm’s ultasonic fingerprint sensors which are more secure. They could have done it in the previous iPhones though but there were factors that limits them from implementing it like power consumptions, sensor productions and more.

TouchID would be a good addition to FaceID authentication as the latter is not always ideal in cases where you need to unlock your phone without looking at it directly. They have done it in the new generation Macbooks so to add them on future iPhones is a must. Android phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S10 has currently been rocking the in-display fingerprint sensors, why can not iPhones too?

There’s still a lot of things to happen and when a new iPhone will be released in the upcoming Apple event, I might hold onto my current iPhone X until the next big thing arrives. How about you?
