Facebook is Building a Smartwatch for your Health Data
Fitness trackers and smartwatches nowadays are replacing traditional clock styled watches. My smartwatch of choice is the Apple Watch Series 5 that I use every day in tracking time, daily steps, and workout progress.
The Business Insider cited that Facebook is building smartwatch hardware that may hit the market sometime in 2022.
The reported watch will likely feature Facebook’s family apps to send messages to one another. It will also integrate health and fitness products.
Like some cellular connection-enabled Apple Watch, reports suggest that the Facebook smartwatch will access the internet through a cellular connection, which means that it will not need to be paired with a smartphone. It will initially run with Google’s Android open-source version though Facebook will later create their operating system.
Facebook hopes that its smartwatch will be less dependent on Google and Apple since these tech giants’ operating systems run most of the world’s mobile devices.
I am pretty sure this promising device will offer various advantages as it is from Facebook. Many individuals may get a second thought of relying on their health data in the process since the company has weak records on data privacy.
I mainly use the Apple Watch Series 5 as my daily watch driver for over a year. Most of the apps for messaging, health, and fitness are compatible with this device. I am still fine using this watch and will hold onto it for a couple of years to come.
The question is, are you going to buy the upcoming Facebook smartwatch? Let me know your thoughts about it in the comment section below.
